FDA Finally Addresses Amphetamine-Like Dietary Supplement

Manufacturers of five dietary supplements were issued warnings about BMPEA, an amphetamine-like substance which can significantly raise heart rate and blood pressure. Pieter Cohen, MD, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School recently published research which warned the public about this substance, as it was found in 21 supplements. The study was published in the journal Drug Testing and Analysis,stating that, "Physicians should remain vigilant for patients presenting with toxicity from sports and weight-loss supplements as they might contain undisclosed stimulants, such as BMPEA."
