DEA Targets New Drug, Kratom, Schedule 1 Substance like Heroin

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has added another drug to its controlled-substance list. This drug, which is growing acclaim for its various uses, is also still relatively unknown to most of the general public. Kratom, or Ketum, is a plant species Mitragyna speciosa which is most related to the coffee plant. DEA: Operation Pilluted

photo credit: (AP Photo/Danny Johnston) Illegal prescription drug sales has resulted in over 280 arrests in over a year, including 22 doctors and pharmacists. Authorities have raided various locations in the South that had been conducting illegal drug activities.The Drug Enforcement Administration has launched "Operation Pilluted" that focuses on the illegal distribution of oxycodone, hydrocodone and Xanax by medical professionals.
